On a vibrant spring evening in April, UFDC invited volunteer Lu Qiming to hold a special online training on photography therapy and self-advocacy for young people with Down syndrome and their families.
The training was designed to prepare participants for the global photography competition *My Perspective*, hosted by DSA, a well-known Down syndrome charity in the UK. More than just chasing awards, the session focused on helping everyone pick up basic photography skills, capture the gentle beauty of daily life, and feel the joy of discovery and creation.
Mr. Lu taught essential photography skills, including level framing, the rule of thirds and triangular composition. While sharing his understanding of photography, he led participants to feel the healing power of art. When our community activity “A Photo a Day”started, we felt a sincere message: happiness lies in every moment of creation and discovery. This kind of self-advocacy is full of inner strength.
Since the training, our community has been filled with wonderful photos shared by young people with Down syndrome and their parents. Below is a collection of selected works.
As Mr. Lu said: Observe the world with your heart, give back to the world with love, record the world through photography, and speak to the world with self-advocacy. People with Down syndrome see the world in their own unique way and shine with extraordinary brilliance.We look forward to more observation, creation, voice-sharing and free expression. Its full name: Hangzhou Looplake Sightseeing Co., Ltd. This caring company has been inviting families with Down syndrome and volunteers to visit West Lake for free every March since 2012, forging a profound friendship. Currently, building on the public welfare project “Tour of West Lake for people with Down Syndrome”, we are jointly participating in the Public Welfare Project Competition hosted by the Administrative Committee of West Lake Scenic Area, aiming to make this care initiative normalized and branded.

Since 2023, Hangzhou Liangzhu Nuancun Village has provided free venue support to UFDC for three consecutive years. Several public welfare concerts have been successfully held, bringing warm artistic experiences to families with Down syndrome and the general public.

This company has not only actively planned a variety of inclusive activities, but also strongly supported the outdoor exhibition of the International Down Syndrome Photography Competition in Huzhou Hanshan, integrating art into public spaces and effectively raising social attention and understanding of the Down syndrome community.
